E1.02 - JFET Headphone Amplifier and Characterization
The comparison of JFET & vacuum tube amplifiers.
Sponsor: Ingram School of Engineering
Student Team: Christopher Thomas, Jessica Wright, and Aldo Sanchez Alvarado
Faculty Advisor: Mr. Jeffrey Stevens

The first of four parts of the project is to build and characterize a vacuum tube headphone amplifier. Secondly, the team is responsible for designing, building, and characterizing a junction field effect transistor (JFET) amplifier. The third task is to design and build a test jig to characterize and identify matched pairs of JFETs for the JFET headphone amplifier. Lastly, the team will compare both amplifiers through a series of characterization tests including current draw, input/output impedance, signal to noise ratio, crosstalk, frequency response, slew rate, voltage gain, power output and total harmonic distortion.
